Components of the environment

 The environment has four major components. They include ; lithosphere, Atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere.

Lithosphere;This is the outermost layer of the earth.This is mainly made of different minerals.It has a deepth of one hundred kilometers.It is found on both land and oceans. Its main components are Tetonicplates.

Hydrosphere; This includes all forms of water bodies.They include; Lakes, Rivers, Ponds and streams.It covers seventy percent of the earth.

Atmosphere; This consists of gaseous layer enveloping the earth.Atmosphere with oxygen mainly supports life.It also deals with space above the ground.

Biosphere; This mainly involve places where life is or exists.The ecosystem that supports life can be in soil,air , water and land.This in general consists of plant and animal lives respectively.

Plant Life; This involves all plants on the Earth's surface.They are both natural and planted ones.

Natural vegetation;These are plants that grow on their own.They exist on their own . They include magroove vegetation and many others.They mainly produce hard wood timber.

Planted vegetation; This involves all plants grow and looked at by man They include; plantations and crops grown.Planted trees provide soft timber for furniture.They also provide food to people locally.

Importance of plant life.

-Helps to modify climate of an area

-Provides food to people like green vegetables

-Control soil erosion

-Used as herbal medicine 

Animal life; This is where also man is grouped.It consists of very many animals which are both wild and domestic animals.

Domestic animals; These are animals that are kept at home.They can also be defined as animals that stay at home with man.

Examples of domestic animals;

-Cows

-Sheep

-Goats

-Pigs and many others.

Importance of domestic animals;

-They provide food to people

-They provide security to people

-They provide company to people

-They keep people busy and many others.

Wild animals;These are animals that stay in the bush.They are some times kept in game parks.These animals are dangerous to people.They can easily kill people as their prey and food.

Examples of wild animals;

-Lions

-Leoperds 

-Snakes

-Bush babies

Gorillas

Importance of wild animals;

-They provide food to people

-They attract tourists who bring in foreign exchange

-They provide company to people 

There are many other components of the environment.

 

Among others components we have plants in the environment.

 Plants in the environment;

Plants are green Vegetation cover found in all parts of the world.They are in all sizes and shapes.

Examples of plants in the environment;

Green algae

Mosses

Ferns

Vine

Grasses

Bushes

Herbs

Trees

And flowering plants 

How plants make their own food;

Plants make their own food (starch) by a process called photosynthesis.During this process, plants absorb carbon dioxide from the environment in the atmosphere.Also oxygen is given out through plant leaves to the environment.

How useful is photosynthesis to plants;

It helps plants to get energy

It helps plants to make their own food

It helps plants to stay in their own environment

How plants improve the environment;

They release oygen to the atmosphere

They absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere

Provide nutrients to animals and regulate water cycle

Importance of plants to the environment;

They provide fruits, vegetables, cereals grains and seeds.

They provide oxygen for breathing in animals

They absorb carbon dioxide from the environment

General Importance of plants;

They provide building materials

They are used in textle industry like cotton

They are used as ethanol

They are used as scents(perfumes)

They provide oxygen for breathing in animals
